OKKU Students on Cultural Excursion!

Specific historical places in Famagusta were visited with an aim to introduce historical and culturally significant sites of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to Onbeş Kasım Kıbrıs University students and provide them with a boost of motivation. During this excursion, students toured the abandoned town of Varosha (Maras), as well as the Lala Mustafa Pasha Mosque within the walled city, and the ruins of Salamis.

Local information was provided to the students at the visited historical sites. This excursion was organized as an opportunity for students to understand the history of the country they reside in, develop a sense of belonging, and grasp cultural differences. Such important cultural trips are meticulously chosen and presented to students each semester.

Students initially visited Varosha, where they learned about the historical events and examined architectural structures, thus gaining insights into the island's past. Following this, they visited the Lala Mustafa Pasha Mosque in Famagusta, where the significance of these structures was explained. Muslim foreign students had the opportunity to experience worship by entering the mosque. The excursion continued to the Salamis ruins, where historical information was provided and questions were answered.

This cultural excursion not only increased students' motivation but also allowed them to come together and familiarize themselves with the country they live in. At Onbeş Kasım Kıbrıs University, we emphasize the importance of adopting a student-centered approach and strive to understand from the students' perspective.
