Onbeş Kasım Kıbrıs University 2022-2023 Academic Year opening ceremony was held.
On the anniversary of TRNC's founding, the opening of the academic year of our University, was proudly celebrated. The Chairman of YÖDAK Turgay Avcı, Chief Prosecutor Sarper Altıncık, OKKÜ Chairman of the Board of Trustees Ertan Birinci, OKKU Deputy Chairman of the Board of Trustees Ümit Mutlu Dur, OKKU Rector Prof. Dr. Remziye Terkan, valuable academicians and students have attended the ceremony. The first speech at the ceremony, which started with a moment of silence and the National Anthem, was delivered by OKKU Rector Prof. Dr. Remziye Terkan. Terkan said, "We continue on our way with the name we took from the anniversary of the founding of the TRNC." Terkan stated that OKKU aims to raise individuals with a broad mission and vision. OKKU Board of Trustees Chairman Ertan Birinci emphasized the importance of the opening of the academic year in evaluating the previous year and in revealing the goals of the new academic year. Indicating that Onbeş Kasım Kıbrıs University got its name from the day this republic was founded, Birinci said that today is a great holiday. In his speech, he also referred to the terrorist attack that took place on Istiklal Street in Istanbul, expressing his deep sorrow for the losses, and conveyed his wishes to all those affected. Expressing that success is always envied, Birinci said that various games are always played against those who try to be successful. Stating that there are students from many countries of the world at OKKU, Birinci added, "We are always working for our dreams." In his speech, YODAK President Turgay Avcı said, “It is an honor to be at the academic opening of Onbeş Kasım Kıbrıs University on 15th of November.” Avcı condemned the terrorist attack that took place in Turkey and said, "No terrorist attack can stop the Republic of Turkiye." Avcı said that there are 21 active universities in the TRNC and that there are over 100 thousand students. Referring to the issue of international accreditation, Avcı said that this issue is very important and that incoming students prefer universities with international validity. Avcı also referred to the ongoing work of OKKU's new campus in the Mesarya region, stating that this new school building is a serious investment for the region. Finally, the ceremony came to an end with Mr. Tayfun Acarer giving the first lecture of the 2022-2023 Academic Year. In his lecture, where he talked about the various agendas of technology, Acarer emphasized that technology would draw people in like a whirlpool.
