Economy Workshop held on September 14

Onbeş Kasım Kıbrıs University contributed to the Tourism and Economics Workshop held on the 14th of September 2022, with the attendance of our lecturer Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ergin Akalpler. At the workshop organized by the Presidency at the Acapulco Resort Hotel, various topics were discussed under the four main topics such as understanding and evaluating the tourism potential of the area,  individual and institutional profiles, and solutions to the economic problems. President of the Republic Ersin Tatar addressed the importance of tourism and the recent developments in the Turkish Cypriot community experienced in the sector, which was non-existent prior to the 1974s. Tatar also emphasized the significance of Maraş for tourism, the ongoing studies for destination development, and the great contribution of the hotels established by various business persons and contributions from Turkey to the economy of the country.

Prime Minister Üstel too addressed the significant developments observed since 1986 through various economical and financial protocols in the sector. Üstel emphasized the need for an increased capacity of sleep-in accommodation with at least 60 thousand bed capacity.  Üstel also addressed the energy problems and emphasized the need to overcome them if we are to ease the development of industry and tourism.

Turkish Republic Nicosia Ambassador Başçeri stated that they are working for a self-sufficient TRNC. While emphasizing the multidirectional influence of tourism, Başçeri also addressed the important work of the Tourism Development Agency in England and Germany to promote TRNC.

Minister of the Treasury Şan addressed the areas of education, health, and tourism. He emphasized the importance of smart utilization of resources. He provided insights on transportation, accommodation, environmental pollution, and access to financing.

Minister of Economy and Energy Amcaoğlu addressed domestic consumption and exportation issues. He emphasized the significance of placing special care on information technologies and stated that the Ministry has passed the Energy Supreme Board Act to the Parliament.

Türkiye Halk Bank INC. General Manager Osman Arslan stated that the Turkish public is facing an unrightful embargo. He emphasized the continuous support from Türkiye and he also expressed the pride they feel to be a contributor to the development of the new airport terminal.

The Head of Türkiye Medical Tourism Association İbiş too stated that Cyprus is an important tourism destination and he addressed the significant initiatives in the fields of education and infrastructure.
